Mechanical Engineering includes versatile fields like energy, fluid dynamics, dynamics, combustion, vibrations, design, manufacturing methods, systems modeling and simulation, mechatronics, robotics, material mechanics, rapid prototyping, and composites. It addresses every facet of transforming thermal energy into valuable work and the devices that enable this process. Mechanical engineering is commonly known as the ‘parent’ of all engineering disciplines. A captivating aspect of mechanical engineering is that the scope of applications in this discipline is remarkably wide and varied. If you find yourself curious about the workings of things, captivated by robots and car engines, then mechanical engineering could be the career for you.
Mechanical Engineering department in Bansal Institutes of Science and Technology, Bhopal provides an engineering curriculum grounded in science. The main emphasis of our curriculum is to provide students with technical expertise and enhance their ability to solve problems and innovate new technologies.
We provide a B. Tech program for undergraduates and an M. Tech program in Industrial Engineering and Management for postgraduates. The current enrollment is 30 for UG Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and 30 students for PG Master of Engineering (M.Tech.) in Industrial Engineering, respectively.
Our department boasts an impressive track record in teaching and research. Faculty members possess outstanding academic qualifications and are widely esteemed. The Faculty members have shared their research results in diverse international and national journals, conferences, and seminars.
At BIST, we concentrate on delivering a solid theoretical foundation along with valuable practical experience to students in applicable fields. The goal is to offer a contemporary, industry-focused education in the Mechanical Engineering Department. The “Robot Fire Extinguisher” project, created by Mechanical Engineering students Saurabh Lodhi and Roshan Kumar, won second place and a cash prize of Rs. 2100 at Technovation-2023 held on 3rd and 4th November 2023 at IES University Bhopal. The project stood out for its innovative design and practical application.
The students of IV Semester from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, participated in SAVISHKAR MADHYABHARAT Project Idea Competion under National Technology Day 2025 organized by Vigyan Bharti at Vigyan Bhawan MPCST Bhopal.
An industrial visit was carried out at Mehta Industries Workshop on 1st Sept, 2022, especially for III and V semester students. The main objective behind the visit was to make students aware about how various operations related to Mechanical Engineering especially for design; production and fabrication of different mechanical components are carried out in an Industry and give them a feel of a Mechanical Engineer. Dr. Piyush Kumar Jain and Assistant Professor Annop Pratap Singh) conducted industrial visit along with 40 students from the department.
An industrial visit was carried out at Energy Centre of MANIT, Bhopal on 13th Sept, 2022, for the students of Mechanical Engineering Department, BIST Bhopal. The primary vision of this visit was to make students aware about various recent trends of renewable energy systems and its innovations. Approximately 40 students visited the center under the supervision of Dr. Prem Kumar Chaurasiya and Prof. Annop Pratap Singh.
We have organized industrial visit for students of III and V semester mechanical engineering at Bansal TMT Sariya Mandideep on 19 October 2022. During this visit student gained knowledge about steel rod manufacturing process. Students learned how rods are being manufactured from raw material in form of iron ores which is being melted in furnaces and then casted in form of rods. This visit helped student to get practical knowledge of subject manufacturing process which they are studying in their current semester.
Global Skill Park
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bansal Institute of Science & Technology, Bhopal has organized a visit to GLOBAL SKILL PARK, a government initiative to increase the skills of mechanical engineers and make them industry-ready. In total, 37 students from the 4th and 6th semester have visited Global Skills Park and have seen some conventional as well as advanced mechanical machines and their operations. The questionnaire has also been addressed by the officer-in-charge.
On 14 July 2023, Savishkar Madhya Bharat and Bansal Institute of Science and Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully carried out an industrial visit at Daulat Ram Engineering Industry, Mandideep. The purpose of visit was to provide the students a practical exposure to the manufacturing processes, operations and cutting edge technologies. The first hand exposure to Daulat Ram Engineering Industry’s manufacturing processes gave a great learning experience to students. We would like to express our gratitude to Daulat Ram Engineering Industry for providing us with this opportunity, to explain and guide thestudents in detail about each and every facilities present at manufacturing plant.
The students of Mechanical Engineering recently had the opportunity to visit LM Bakers Private Limited, a company that manufactures biscuits for Parle, a leading Indian brand. During the industrial visit, the students gained valuable insights into the biscuit production process. They witnessed firsthand the transformation of raw materials into delicious treats, observing how the ingredients move through various ovens and conveyor belts. This visit provided the students with a practical understanding of the mechanical engineering principles applied in a real-world manufacturing setting.
Bansal Extraction & Export Pvt. Ltd.
The III Semester Students of Mechanical Engineering Department at BIST Bhopal recently embarked on an enriching industrial visit to Bansal Extraction & Export Pvt. Ltd. This immersive experience provided them with firsthand exposure to the fascinating world of soybean oil extraction and advanced industrial processes. The visit commenced with a tour of the boiler section, where they witnessed the essential steam generation process that fuels the operations. Moving on to the refinery section, the students were captivated by the intricate machinery employed in transforming soybeans into edible oil. They observed various advanced machining processes, gaining valuable insights into the intricate workings of modern industrial equipment. The journey culminated in the hot molding section, where they learned about the shaping of plastic canes, a crucial component in oil packaging. The students also explored the packaging section, observing the meticulous processes involved in packaging oil cans and boxes in various sizes, from ½ L to 15 L.
Students gained practical knowledge about the oil extraction process, witnessed advanced machinery in action, and learned about the intricacies of industrial packaging. This exposure will undoubtedly broaden their horizons and contribute significantly to their academic and professional development.
Mechanical Engineering Students Tour MSME Ministry
On June 17, 2024, VI semester students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering visited the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), and Government of India. The visit offered students a comprehensive exploration of the latest advancements in manufacturing technologies and the evolving needs of the industry. The students were introduced to various recent technologies and improvements in machinery through detailed briefings by the trainers. This exposure provided valuable insights into the state-of-the-art equipment and innovations available at MSME training centers, enhancing their understanding of current industrial practices and preparing them for future career challenges.
On 14/09/24, 3rd-semester Mechanical Engineering students visited Welspun Corporation Ltd., observing the production of 143-inch diameter pipes. They explored Safety, Metal Forming, and Inspection departments, gaining practical insights and bridging theory with real-world applications. The visit showcased Welspun’s precision, innovation, and global manufacturing excellence.
On 30/11/2024, 3rd-semester Mechanical Engineering students, accompanied by faculty, visited Smart Automation, Govindpura. They observed conventional and automated manufacturing processes for mechanical components and explored key departments like Safety, Metal Casting, and Inspection. The visit provided valuable practical insights, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, while showcasing the facility’s precision, innovation, and exceptional standards in engineering excellence.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an industrial visit to Sant Shiromani Ravidas Global Skills Park (SSRGSP) for IV semester students. As India’s first multi-skills park, SSRGSP houses COSA and CAAT, offering exposure to advanced training and entrepreneurship development. Trainers demonstrated the operation and applications of Industry 3.0 machines, enriching students’ understanding of modern industrial practices and skill-based education.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at BIST Bhopal conducted a week-long workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights: Protection of Invention and Copyright” starting on March 4th, 2024. The workshop was inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Guest, ShriVikasShende Sir, Senior Scientist from MPCST. His insightful session on IPR laid the foundation for an enriching learning experience for all participants.
This week-long program aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect their inventions and creative works.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, BIST with Center for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP), Bhopal has conducted the 10 days workshop on “Additive Manufacturing-3D Printing” from 10th to 22nd February 2024. The faculty members from the difference departments were attended the sessions during workshop and get benefited. The trainer had demonstrated the latest technologies over 3D printing and 3Dscanning ahead of participants.
Bansal Institute of science and technology, Bhopal had conducted one week faculty development program on a very vital and universal topic of “Research Methodology and How to Write a Good Scientific Research Paper” sponsored by Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and technology. The dominant key speakers from different IITs, NITs and research institutes were invited to share their valuable experience and knowledge amongst the participants. Total 150 participants including in-house and from different institutes have registered in the program. Most of the sessions were conducted offline whereas some of the sessions (4 approx.) were conducted online as per the availability of speakers. Almost all the offline sessions were broadcasted online platform to the outside participants through Zoom application.
Second Year Students of Mechanical Engineering Department, have successfully completed a certified Short Term Training Course of 20 days on “Advanced CNC Machining (Milling)” at MSME Technology Center Bhopal under Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP).
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a 10-day training on “Precision 5-Axis CNC” for VI semester students under the Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP). Conducted in collaboration with MSME Technology Centre, Bhopal, and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, this initiative aimed to nurture young talent by providing hands-on industrial exposure and fostering entrepreneurial skills.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering recently hosted a seminar titled “The Untold Opportunity in Manufacturing, Engineering, & Technology (MET).” The session featured Mr. Sarvesh Kumar, Manager at NAMTECH, as the keynote speaker, who shared his expert insights into emerging opportunities within the MET industry. The event was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Anoop Pratap Singh and Prof. Kalpana Sachan, offering valuable perspectives for students to explore future career paths.
Mr. Ashutosh Singh Raghubanshi, Ph.D. Research Scholar at CSIR-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI) Bhopal and a proud alumnus of BIST’s 2008 batch, was invited to deliver an Alumni Talk. His session offered valuable insights into advanced materials research, inspiring current students with his journey and achievements.
Mrs. Shashi Karautiya, Senior Engineer (Training) at MSME Technology Centre Bhopal, was invited to deliver an expert talk in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Her session offered valuable industry insights and guidance, enriching students’ understanding of current trends and practices in engineering and technology.
A webinar titled “Structure and Magnetic Properties of Cobalt-based Heusler Alloys prepared with Mechanical Alloying” was conducted by the Mechanical Engineering Department on 22nd Feb, 2022. The webinar’s guest speaker was Dr. Yogesh Shrivastava, Assistant Director and Head Testing Division at the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt. of India. He explained to the students about the user alloys, their structure, properties and Industrial application.
A webinar on “Effective Project Report Writing”
Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bansal Institute of Science and Technology, Bhopal has conducted a Webinar on 3rd Oct, 2022 for the students and faculty members of BIST, BIRT and BIRTS on “Effective Project Report Writing”. The webinar’s guest speaker Dr. K.B. Rana was invited; he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering UD, RTU Kota (Rajasthan). More than 70 participants including students and faculty members of BIST, BIRT and BIRTS have attended and got benefitted from this webinar. In this one hour online session, the queries of students and faculty members were answered by the speaker.
The Departments of Mechanical and Civil Engineering at BIST Bhopal organized “CAD Clash,” a drafting and modeling competition for 3rd and 5th-semester students. The event featured two design modules—2D and 3D—and showcased the skills of over 60 participants from both disciplines. This competition provided a platform for aspiring designers to demonstrate their creativity, precision, and technical proficiency in computer-aided design.
